Work Weekend 2011 – Almost Blown Away!

April 22nd, 2011

Over 30 people came to the Camp Club and Camp Committee meeting on Friday night led by John Kelly and Nancy Voiland and then worked most of the day on Saturday.
Aaron Kimball and Nick DeSerres organized the left hand storage room in the gym while Janis Henderson-Hunsucker (me) and Stacy Buck cleaned benches, stacked chairs and moved tables. The McHenry/Kimball ladies cleaned the camp store and many nice fellows like George Bridger helped move the old gym doors into the camp store and stack heavy folding tables. Nat McHenry headed up a crew at the chapel cleaning that building. The DeSerres/Council women organized 206 that held extra boxes of kitchen supplies and toilet paper. You can actually walk in the room without boxes falling on you now! Linda Love made a trip to the Dollar Store to buy shower curtains for all the cabins. Nancy Voiland, Geneva Britt and Patsy Schutte cleaned the cabin boxes and trash cans. The DeSerres ladies helped me restock them and Steve Olsen helped me put them back in the cabins. Todd Kampschroder and friends cut down a tree that was blocking the path to the fire circle. We found a possum in a trashcan and released it into the wild.
Needless to say, much cleaning and organizing was completed in one day at camp dispite the very heavy winds! We weren’t blown away and the camp received a good spring cleaning.

Work Weekend 2010

April 11th, 2010

We had a great work weekend. There was a small group of dedicated folks and lots of work was accomplished. A team led by Ed Bridger and George Kampscroeder put the bunkbeds together in 3 cabins. The 4-H staff: Rob, Jared, Rodney & Susan delivered the mattresses. Don Welch single handedly powerwashed the entire pool. He says he wants to share the job next year! Nancy Voiland, John Kelly and Janis Henderson-Hunsucker removed the leaves out of the pool and used the leaf blower and rakes to remove the leaves from the pool deck. The 4-H staff and John Kelly painted the fence by the gate and maintanence shed. Lisa Lloyd and crew cooked great meals because we sure worked up an appetite! Mike Bowman (property mananger) and Keith Russell (Center Director) provided us with directions and tools.
